The song was written by Hugh Nankivell (piano and vocals) and Graham Browning initially and then with glorious additions by Ben McCabe (drums) Richard Evans (bass) Dean Brodrick (bassoon, marimba and palindromes) and finally Billie Bottle (vocals). It was then mixed by Richard Evans.

lyrics

This is a song - For contemplating
All that we find - Utterly vexing
Like how to dance - In 5/4 time
When we’re on our own

This is a song - For educating
And helping solve- Riddles that need solving
Like how to write- Down palindromes
When we’re on our own

First you put your right
Foot down on the ground
Then you lift your left foot round (and then continue round and round)
Start with something short
A three letter word
Like Bob or Did or Mum or Dad (and then go up to four letters etcetera etcetera)

In no time at all (no time at all)
You’ll be dancing (you’ll be having fun)
And writing ‘No garden one dragon

This is a song- A song for singing
Now in this time- Of isolating
We’ve learned dance steps - And how to write
Words and phrases that are quite
The same backwards and forwards
Palindrome Emordilap
Koby wa ma mawy bok
Was It A Car or a Cat I Saw
Regal lager
Able Was I ere I saw Elba
A Man a plan a canal Panama
Madam I’m Adam

was it a car or a cat I saw Torquay, UK

Dean (Speedwell) formed a band called 'Was It A Car Or A Car I Saw' in about 1986 and Hugh (Eddhu Nan) was a key player as was Richard (briefly). In this time of songs about learning and making palindromes and dancing in 5/4 it seemed appropriate to resurrect the wonderful name. We hope that previous members of the band (some who will see their names on the photo on soundcloud) will not mind. ... more
